Albemarle Sound and Alligator River to Tuckahoe Point, NC

Heading South across Albemarle Sound is so much more pleasant with a North wind than with a South wind!  There was plenty of wind and chop but with it pushing us it was not a bad trip.  It was still pretty chilly, however.

We had to beat feet to get to the Alligator River Bridge as we were holding up 2 other boats already waiting for the opening.  At this bridge we were required to give the bridge tender our USCG documentation number - have never been asked for that before.

No, we didn't see any alligators.  But we did see plenty of wind all the way to Tuckahoe point.  By the time we got to the achorage we were quite cold.  There was much more wind in there than the last time I anchored there.

Our anchor held just fine, as it has everywhere on the trip so far.  There was one boat already in the anchorage when we arrived and 4 more joined us over the next few hours.  Wind kept up pretty much all night, as far as I could tell, and into the morning.

  1. You've got a distinctive writing style that makes it easy to hear your voice when I'm reading. The trip must be so much enjoyable without it being a rough shakedown cruise as well, and having been on the same basic route before. I'm so glad the weather has been cooperative. It's taken me a few days to catch up on your adventures due to recovering from shoulder surgery. Basically, I'm a one-handed typist.
