Witnessing Weddings and Halloween in St. Michael's

For those of you who followed my blog in 2019 where I chronicled my personal version of the "Perils of Pauline", where there was fire, famine and fiasco galore, I humbly apologize!  We've had absolutely awesome weather, dead flat water and as far as I can tell, everything on the boat is, so far, working!  So there is just nothing I can spin into anything even close to humor here...it's just become one of those boring blogs - and I hope it stays that way!

We left the Sassafras River on Friday, Oct 25, intending to make a quick jump over to Worton Creek - a highly recommended anchorage.  Well, best made plans...it was too short a voyage and with wind predicted for next couple of days we decided to beat feet and go instead to St. Michael's.  We went first to the anchorage (save a few bucks) for a night.  Not much room at the anchorage near the Inn at Perry Cabin and there was already a couple of sailboats there but we squeezed in anyway.

We then witnessed a wedding in one area of the fancy lawn and then a wedding rehearsal right in front of where we were anchored.  The rehearsal was pretty rough, so they did it a couple more times!

The next morning we were able to check in early at St. Michael's Marina, before the wind started really howling.  It was an interesting docking experience...we went first to the fuel dock, where we left our dinghy and picked up a dockhand.  He instructed us to go around to the other side of the dock and then pointed to a small space in a corner where the dock turns 90 degrees...so, if you can picture this, the boats on either side of the turn come out so their bows are quite close together and the remaining space resembles a piece of pie.  That was our slip, and we had to back in.  One dockhand on my boat, one dockhand on one of the neighboring boats.  I think that perhaps they greased up my boat a bit because surprisingly, it slid into place with no yelling, scraping or jeering!  We were the talk of the town for the night for that maneuver.  In the pictures above, the first was a drone photo complements of the marina - looks like all the space in the world!  The second was my view from the upper helm and shows how close the bows of the other boats were to us

We liked the marina enough we decided to stay there 2 nights.  Surprisingly, the next morning (Sunday), the place went from full to nearly completely empty!  We were wondering if it was something we'd said or done.

As it is getting close to Halloween, we saw several entertaining of the latest rage - posable skeletons.  Our favorites were Abbey Road and the Fishing Dudes

We checked out Clam Cakes (and cream of clam soup) at Harrison's one day and at the Crab Claw the next - Harrison's food was better by far, but service was better at the Crab Claw.
